Weightsmith · Melaka
The Forge Behind the Curriculum
We run AI development tracks for adults who already work. What we teach, how we pace it and why the intensity table is the first thing you see — it all comes from the same place.

How Weightsmith Started
Weightsmith started in Melaka in 2022 from a single observation: most AI courses were structured for people with time. Long daily sessions, full-time student pacing, an assumption that the learner had cleared their schedule to attend.
The people we knew who wanted to build AI skills were engineers, analysts and operations staff finishing eight-hour days before they opened a laptop to study. They needed courses that acknowledged that reality, not ones that ignored it.
So we built three tracks with published intensity tables. Before you enrol, you read the weekly hour count and the assessment load. We do not soften those numbers. If the load does not fit your week, the track is not right for you at this moment. That is a conversation we would rather have before you sign up than after you have struggled through four weeks and burned out.
The name comes from the metaphor that runs through everything we do. A rough billet of metal becomes a useful tool through repeated, controlled work — heated, hammered, cooled and checked. That is what a well-designed curriculum does to a learner's understanding: it works the material until it holds an edge.
Our Mission
What We Are Working Toward
We want every working adult in Malaysia who wants to develop AI skills to have access to a curriculum that is paced for them, assessed honestly and delivered with enough support that they can actually complete it.
That is a straightforward aim. Getting there requires keeping class sizes manageable so tutor code review stays meaningful, keeping the intensity table honest so people arrive at the right track for their life, and keeping the assessment record specific enough to be worth showing to an employer.
We run three tracks. We do not plan to run forty. Depth matters more to us than range.

The People
Who Runs the Tracks
Razif Hakim
Programme Director
Razif designed the intensity table system and oversees curriculum development across all three tracks. He spent eight years in ML engineering roles before moving to education full-time.
Siti Wani
Lead Tutor — Applied Tracks
Siti leads the Hot Work and Tempering tracks, conducting code reviews and architecture clinics. Her background is in NLP research and production deployment at a regional fintech firm.
Joel Lim
Foundations Tutor & Cohort Coordinator
Joel teaches Cold Start and coordinates cohort channels across all tracks. He built and maintains the staffed channel system that keeps response times under four hours during the working week.
How We Work
Standards We Hold Ourselves To
Published Intensity Tables
Every track publishes weekly hour counts and assessment loads before enrolment opens. We do not revise these figures downward mid-track.
Human Code Review
Applied track assessments receive written feedback from a tutor who has read your code, not automated test pass/fail output. Comments address your implementation choices directly.
Data Protection
Participant data is used to manage cohort logistics and communicate course information. It is not shared with advertising networks. Privacy policy is available at privacy-policy.html.
Managed Cohort Sizes
We cap cohorts so tutor-to-participant ratios stay within a range where code review feedback is worth reading. When a cohort fills, we open the next one rather than expand the existing one.
Specific Completion Records
Completion records state the track name, the weeks and hours logged, the assessments submitted and the outcomes. Vague certificates are not useful; we do not issue them.
Staffed Cohort Channels
Cohort channels are staffed during business hours and into the evenings on weekdays. Questions posted during the working day receive a response before the evening session begins.
AI Development Education in Malaysia
What Weightsmith Teaches and Why the Structure Matters
AI development as a discipline has expanded faster than education has adapted. Many people working in adjacent fields — data analysts, software engineers, operations staff, product managers — can see that model-based tools are changing how their work is done, and they want to understand the engineering behind those tools well enough to participate in building them.
The barrier is not aptitude. It is time. Intensive full-day programmes are designed for people who have stepped out of employment to study. Evening courses at a seven-to-twelve-hour weekly load are designed for people who have not. Weightsmith sits in the second category.
Cold Start covers the technical ground a working adult needs to move from no coding experience to being able to read, write and run Python confidently — handling data, using version control, reading statistical output and understanding what a model is doing at a basic level. The track runs eight weeks at seven hours per week, in the evenings.
Hot Work moves into model architectures and the engineering that surrounds them: training loops, fine-tuning approaches, evaluation design and the infrastructure decisions that affect how a model behaves in use. Four assessed projects give participants a body of work that demonstrates what they can do. GPU credits are included so the work is not constrained by personal hardware.
Tempering ends with something a participant built, documented and defended. One shipped system, one written technical report, one recorded defence. Weekly mentoring from a practising engineer. Workshops on technical writing and portfolio construction. The Tempering track is designed for participants who intend to move into roles where AI engineering is a significant part of the job.
All three tracks are run from Melaka, Malaysia. Sessions are online. Melaka office hours are Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 18:00 MYT, with Saturday mornings for administrative enquiries. Enrolment enquiries can be directed to [email protected] or by telephone to +60 6-957 3184.
